| | + | A Great Book by Sarah W posted on MAR 19. 2008 at 2:40 PM | | I recently picked up a great book titled, The Death of Feminism What's Next in the Struggle for Women's Freedom, written by Phyllis Chesler. Topics included, the overly polite liberal and gender aparthied in the middle east. I recommend it, but beware, it'll get your heart pumping. REPLY |

| | + | Tips for women to get and keep satisfying employment by Laurie D posted on AUG 14. 2008 at 12:03 PM | | Hi everyone! Please add some comments or advice you would give to a friend who was trying to find a job, get a job and/or keep a job. What things can she do to have a satisfying job? Here are some of my ideas: 1. Do what you love doing. 2. Know your values and ethics 3. Find a mentor 4. Have confidence in yourself 5. Get educated! 6. Know your rights and stand up for them 7. Find good childcare 8. Be honest 9. Access resources 10. Use word of mouth 11. Stay connected 12. Make networks If you want more information on getting and keeping satisfying employment, follow this link to the Women's Centre's project on Women and Employment! http://www.goldenwomencentre.ca/itoolkit.asp?pg=RESOURCES Peace, Laurie REPLY |

| | + | Childcare as a challenge to finding and keeping a job here in town by Laurie D posted on SEP 9. 2008 at 1:16 PM | | Hi! I don't know about you, but I spend half of my day (and half of my income!) on childcare! I have a great set of babysitter and childcare providers, I am very lucky that way, but trying to schedule them all in, because no one of them can do it for me full time, is an excercise in patience and flexibility on my part. Wouldn't it be great if there was a great childcare centre here in Golden. Affordable, quality staff, a focus on early learning and social responsibility, hot lunches!? Sound like a dream? Maybe, maybe not. If you are interested in learning more about this possiblity and how to be a part of making it happen, please contact Laurie Dalzell at the Golden Women's Centre: 250.344.5137! Peace, L REPLY |
