Take Back the Night!
Women Unite - Take back teh night! Friday, September 10th, 2010. Meet at the Dollar Store parking lot at 7:15pm and the march will begin at 7:30pm. Male allies are invited to join us for a rally outside the post office and an after party at the Rockwater, featuring music by Sarah Osadetz, Laurie Dalzell, and Cleo Corbett followed by DJ Mihajic Touch.
Take Back the Night has been an on-going International demonstration to raise awareness about violence against women and the right to walk without fear. The women of Golden walk in contribution to the efforts of ending violence within our community as well as around the world.

Yoga in the Park!
Golden Lotus Ayurveda is offering Yoga in the Park starting Sunday, July 11th. They will instruct a 1 hour class at Clown Park* (the park between 10th and 11th St. at 9th Ave.) on Sundays, from 11am till 12pm. This is an all-level, fun outdoor yoga class. Bring a friend and your own mat. Drop in fee is $10 and 50% of proceeds are donated to The Golden Women's Resource Centre

National Volunteer Week - April 18th-24th
Pancake Breakfast (Yum!), April 28th, 10am-Noon, Golden Women's Resource Centre (419C 9th Ave. N) - In celebration of all of our wonderful volunteers the Golden Women's Resource Centre will be hosting a pancake breakfast. All volunteers are welcome.
Prevention of Violence Against Women Week - April 18th-24th
Clothesline Project and BBQ, April 21st, Noon-2pm, Kumsheen Park (across from the movie theatre) - In recognition of National Prevention of Violence Against Women Week we invite all women (and the men who love them) who have survived, are experiencing and/or have witnessed violence against women to express your experiences by decorating an article of clothing with works, symbols and pictures. All clothing items will be hung together outside during the BBQ.

March 8th is International Women's Day! Please come celebrate with us at our annual Performance Salon. There will be music, spoken word and other performances by locals in honour of this special day! We will be at the Kicking Horse River Lodge, on Monday, March 8th. There will be food, snacks and beverages available from 6pm - 7pm and performances from 7pm - 9pm. See you there!

On Friday, December 11th there will be a Holiday Hot Lunch here at the Golden Women’s Resource Centre for our volunteers, members and clients. Please come and join us from noon to 1:00pm for some delicious goodies, great company and some holiday cheer.
December 6th is the National Day of Remembrance & Action on Violence Against Women . This day marks the anniversary of the murders of 14 young women at L’Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal in 1989. These individuals were murdered because they were women. For more background information, please see www.dec6.gc.ca. In honour of these women the Golden Women’s Resource Centre will be hosting a short memorial at noon on Monday, December 7th in front of the Post Office. Please join us in remembering these women at this brief event.

4th Annual Starlight Soiree, Thursday, September 26th, 7pm at the Golden Civic Centre! Join us for our annual fundraising event! There will be a food challenge, bar, silent auction, photo booth, live entertainment and more. All Women & Men over 19 are welcome. This is an event not to be missed!

Clothesline Project
In Recognition of National Prevention of Violence Against Women Week we invite all women (and the men who love them) who have survived, are experiencing and/or have witnessed violence against women to share their experience with words, symbols and pictures on a piece of clothing. All items will be hung together at our NPVAW wrap-up BBQ on April 25th.
Supplies will be availalbe at the GWRC, during business hours. Support is available to women who may need someone to talk to during the event and creation process.

Thursday, November 27, 7 - 9 PM: 3rd Annual Starlight Soiree Gala Fundraiser for the Golden Women's Resource Centre: Join your friends at the first festive event to usher in the holiday season...and the only event where you can dress to the nines and wear your most fabulous shoes. Our theme this year is Colorful Foods of the World, and our sponsoring restaurants promise to please your palate with their unique creations.

Last year's event had over 200 guests and this year ticket sales will be capped at 250. Buy your $15 ticket at Bacchus Books, Moon River Gallery or the Golden Women's Centre. Support one of Golden's important community services and look great while you are doing it! This event is a party, men and women are invited, but since there will be a cash bar, all guests must be of legal drinking age.

Friday, September 19, 7 PM (6:30 gathering time): Take Back the Night Celebration: Join the Women's Centre staff, friends, and supporters at the Women's Centre for the annual Take Back the Night March. This parade down Main St. (9th Ave. North) will include dancers, jugglers, firetwirlers, musicians, and speeches. This event is open to anyone who supports a woman's right to feel and be safe walking alone at night. We look forward to seeing you there.

Tuesday, June 3, 7 PM: Emotional Freedom Therapy with Liza Hindmarch: EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) is a fast and effective self help technique that is remarkably simple to master and helps to break free of a whole range of emotional problems from anxiety, phobias & fears to full blown addictions and post traumatic stress disorder - permanently and painfree.Based on the theory of chinese accupuncture and meridian points it uses a technique of gently tapping on certain acupressure points whilst focusing on the emotional problem and relief is found instantly. On Thursday, June 5, NOON: Yoga as a part of your total wellness plan, Wendy Grant: We live in a time where there is little encouragement for paying attention to our body's natural energy levels and giving it what it needs, so sometimes we override the signals and do more when we need to rest and rest when we need to move. Yoga offers us a choice-to listen to what our body requires to nourish ourselves with appropriate practices that create more energy or relaxation. This workshop will explore some simple but effective tools to help relax and renew our bodies and minds. No experience needed. Workshop is FREE and will be held at The Golden Yoga Center, 1213 10th Ave S., red and orange house, backdoor.

Monday, May 5th, NOON: Lunchtime Health Topic. Next week is Mental Health Week and Making Mental Health your Business is the theme. We will be hosting an lunchtime health topic on “Helping your friends, helping yourself. Normalizing and recognizing the importance of taking care of your mental health.” Face it, if you had an embarrassing rash, you would probably go to the doctor to get it checked out, right? Why don’t we address issues of mental health with the same attention? MaryLynn Lewis and Victoria Kennedy from Interior Health will come and present information and answer your questions about staying mentally healthy.
Thursday, May 8, NOON: Very Basic Violin Lesson. If you’ve ever wanted to play the violin, here’s your chance…we’ll sort of. In one hour, Laurie Dalzell will show you how to hold a violin and make a sound on it. You will even “play” one song by the end of the hour. This workshop is designed for those of you that have a violin kicking around (and I know you are out there). But even if you don’t have an instrument and are interested in the violin, you should come! PS…those of you who already know how to play should come too. It will be fun.
Monday, May 12, NOON: An Ayurvedic Approach to Cleansing. Dalia Yanai will present information about Ayurveda and how using the principles of Ayurveda can help make your spring cleanse more effective.

Carmen Gustafson and Christina Benty will share information on how and why they got involved in local government and how you can, too! There will be a daytime presentation on Monday, May 26 as well. Come on out, women. There will be an election this fall and what a great opportunity to get more women involved in our government. Tell all your female friends to come and learn more.

Monday, May 19, NOON: You are more than what you eat: An introduction to transformative nutrition. Tammra Green of LivingProof Nutrition will lead us through some exercises to learn more about our well being, the food we eat and how the two are completely intertwined. This information will change your life J.
Tuesday, May 20, 7 PM: Sushi Workshop with Nina Mitchell. If you were part of this workshop last year, you know that Nina is a genius and her creative approach to Sushi is not to be missed. Thursday, May 22, NOON: Develope a Life Balance Wheel. We all want rich and fulfilling lives, which means we usually have lots of competing priorities and ways we'd like to improve ourselves. Join life coach, Leslie Adams to look at your own life balance wheel to look at your priorities and current level of satisfaction of those priorities. Use the Balance Wheel tool to assess where you are in order to put plans in place to get you where you want to be.

- Join Penny Shapperd from True Value Hardware to learn about basic spring garden care and specifically how to wake up your roses. Penny takes care of the gardens at Abbyfield and will share some of her tricks for making those roses so happy. Maybe she’ll even inspire you to join her in the garden where you can learn hands on how to prune and care for roses.
