The Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy
(CBAL) is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote literacy and lifelong learning throughout the Columbia Basin by educating the public about the importance
of literacy and by supporting local community actions related to literacy.
In Golden, CBAL provides or supports literacy programs for people of all ages. Programs include: Baby and Mother Goose for children aged birth to 4, After school reading for elementary and high school students, Adult literacy programs based on the needs and interests of adults in the community, Family literacy programs to share ideas and activities with parents to support their children's learning at home.

Options for Sexual Health Clinic - Golden
Our clinics provide reproductive health services for people of all ages, and we prioritize services for young people in a nonjudgmental, supportive atmosphere. Our objective is to help clients make informed reproductive health decisions that will work for them. To this end, our physicians and nurses ensure that clients understand their health status and needs. Our education resources include our staff and well-trained volunteers, audio-visual and written resource materials, demonstration models and products, and a comprehensive informed consent process.

St. Paul's Thrift Shop
Located behind Abbeyfield House at 915 9th St. S the St. Paul's Thrift Shop offers a variety of second-hand items for your home as well as clothing for men, women, children and teens. It is open on Wednesday's, Friday's and Saturday's from 12pm to 4pm.
Volunteers are always needed to sort, hang and organize clothes, do laundry, clean and de-clutter. It is a great way to gain work experience and provides training for those interesting in working in a retail business. It's great if you're into fashion and vintage as well. For anyone interested in volunteering please stop by the shop and talk to Judy Dimond or call Sarah Wegelin at the Golden Women's Resource Center 250-344-5317

The Golden Food Bank provides emergency food on a monthly basis to 230 people, 88 of whom are children who rely on the services of many generous volunteers, organizers and contributors. We are a great group of people and we have a fun time working with people and food and are always looking for volunteers to help out.
Volunteer hours are Tuesday's, Wednesday's and Thursday's: 9 am-1pm. Some duties include: packaging of bulk foods, helping food-bank coordinator pick up purchased and donated foods and supplies, helping to decorate and provide informational posters. For more information on fun volunteer opportunities that also include working in the garden, with clients and special projects click here.

The British Columbia Special Olympics (Golden)
This wonderful organization's mission is to provide individuals with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to enrich their lives and celebrate personal achievement through positive sport experiences. The Special Olympics has returned to Golden with a set of volunteers and coaches who are empowering individuals with access to activities including cross country skiing and bowling.
